Suspect sought in 'random' assault on woman in Whitby

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 in the area of Closson Drive and Des Newman Boulevard, Durham police said. A woman was walking in the area with her child when an unknown person approached and pierced her neck with an unknown object, police said.

The suspect, believed to be about 20 years old with a medium build and short black hair, fled southbound on Des Newman Blvd., police said.

The victim was treated at hospital and released. The child was not injured, police said.

It was the second incident described by police as a random attack this week
